The RS-10 diesels were road switchers in common use from coast to coast across Canada from 1954 until the early 1980's in both freight and passenger service.
Montreal Locomotive Works (MLW) developed the RS-10 design for the Canadian market from the popular RS-3 design with its 1600 horsepower engine. MLW built 128 RS-10 locomotives between 1954 and 1957 for Candian National (23), Candian Pacific (33), Pacific Eastern (8), and Ontario Northland (2).
Although RS-10 diesels wee basically externally indistinguishable, they had numerous variations in details such as air filters, dynamic brake, fuel tank, steam generator and trucks.
